God's Support Never Weakens
"Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:
for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand."
Psalm 37:24
I used to enjoy walking. Then plantar fasciitis showed up uninvited and turned my evening strolls into something resembling a penguin waddling across hot pavement. I can assure you it wasn't pretty.
For those unfamiliar with this delightful little affliction, plantar fasciitis is heel pain with a serious attitude.
My adventure began with a treatment for new gym shoes. Not one pair, but two. Thanks to an unfortunate first fitting. Then came four different shoe inserts. FOUR! Word to the wise: never try to self-diagnose with shoe salesman ... just saying. Anyhow, as if my feet hadn't endured enough, the arch in one foot decided to slowly collapse. Apparently, even my arch reached retirement age.
Now, my fellow plantar fasciitis sufferers, you understand that those first morning steps can feel like you're walking barefoot across a field of Legos. But somewhere between the doctor's diagnosis, ice packs, physical therapy, stretches, and limping toward the coffeepot, God reminded me that life's painful seasons can teach us something about faith. "Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand" (Psalm 37:24 KJV).
You see, sometimes the very things we depend upon for support begin to weaken. Our health, circumstances, relationships, jobs, supervisors, even carefully laid plans can leave us feeling unsteady. Yet, God's support never weakens.
Even though my daily walks may be on hold, my walk with Christ continues. And while my arch (just the one, praise God) might be falling, I'm grateful His promises never will.
So, when the things supporting us begin to weaken, our God's strength reinforces. He doesn't promise a path without pain, but He promises to uphold us when our strength falters.
Heavenly Father,
When life's challenges slow my steps and weaken my strength, remind me that Your promises never fail. You allow me to lean on You for support and to trust Your guidance for clarity. You upholdeth my walk with Your hand. In Jesus' name. Amen.
