Ruth is an award winning writer. That is if you want to count the Creative Writing Award that she received at 8th grade graduation.

She was impressed by books before she could even read. One day she discovered the library in the home of her father’s boss. There were shelves of books from floor to ceiling on all four walls. To a young three-year-old, it was mesmerizing. She didn’t want to touch anything. All she wanted to do was gaze at the sight of so many books. Even though she was scolded for going into there, it impressed her so much that she decided right then that when she grew up, she would have a room  just like that in her house.

Later on, she discovered books and with the encouragement of her teachers she made up her mind to be a writer. She knew she wanted to get married, send her husband off to work, her kids off to school and stay home and write.

She took the long route to writing by becoming a nurse first. Then she told her husband she wanted to write. He thought it was such a good idea that he bought her an old manual typewriter at a yard sale for $13.00. Thus began her freelance writing on her kitchen table. The first article she  ever submitted was published in a nursing journal. When her daughter started school she covered township meetings for a weekly newspaper.

Now,  when she’s not going to the grandchildren’s sports or piano recitals she’s working on her first novel.
